Local 29 Executive Board

I have been a union fire fighter in Spokane since 2001 working most of my career in the Chief Garry and Logan neighborhoods. I have worked in many different roles in the union over the years from executive board, PPE committee, and Trustee on our union provided medical trust since its inception. When not at the fire station or union hall you can find me at EWU sporting events or at home enjoying time with family.

I have been Local 29’s Treasurer since 2022. I joined the Spokane Fire Department in 2012 and have been fortunate enough to work at many great houses since then. When I’m not crunching numbers or slaying the dragon, I love to play soccer and hockey, and coach youth teams. At home, I’m raising three rowdy, incredible boys with my loving wife Sarah.

Justin has always found himself raising his hand when volunteers are needed. Serving on many different boards and associations throughout his life. As the union secretary of Local 29, he finds great honor in being entrusted with those he serves.

I was hired on to the Spokane Fire Department March 1st, 1999. I have previously served as a station rep and executive board member. Local 29 has a storied history as both a founding member of the Washington State Council of Firefighters and the International Association of Firefighters. I am deeply honored to serve Local 29.

I hired on in 2007 and have the privilege and honor of serving as SAFO Vice President. I am proud of L29’s history and am motivated to continue to preserve our tradition and dignity.

SIA-VP

I have served with the Spokane International Airport Fire Department since 2022. I began my fire service career in 2006 with L2974, Lake Havasu City Professional Firefighters, advancing from Paid On Call (POC) to Engineer Paramedic, and later serving as Union Secretary/Treasurer during the challenging economic period of 2010–2013. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with multiple departments and have experienced firsthand the challenges members face both on and off duty, with and without union protection.

As SIA VP, my focus is on transparency, contract protection, leadership, and accountability. I believe in encouraging member involvement, because strong unions are built through participation, accountability, and standing together when it matters most.

I have worked for the Spokane Fire Department since 2001. Spokane is my third professional fire department that I have worked for, and Local 29 is the third IAFF Local I have been a part of. I have also worked for Local 3995 Whitefish Professional Firefighters and Local 1892 Pullman Professional Firefighters.

I’ve been a union firefighter since 2004. I’m currently at Engine 7. When I’m not at work, you can usually find me living the Dad-life with my family enjoying the Inland Northwest.
I’m looking forward to serving our Local as an E-Board member.

Having had the good fortune of working for, and with, numerous principal officers of L29 early in my career, the Union has been an integral part of my life. Involved for more than 2 decades in a variety of committees, projects, and as a board member since 2018, I take pride in understanding member’s concerns and finding solutions

My name is Mike Walker. I have been with the Spokane Fire Department since 2010.  I have been working in the fire service since 2003. I have been a member of Local 29s Executive Board since 2020. I am also Local 29’s Firefighter Cancer Support Network representative and help members with whatever I can when they get the news of cancer. I thank you all for the opportunity to represent you!
