Local 29 Executive Board

I’m Randy Marler, a dedicated firefighter with 23 years of experience, proudly serving the Spokane community from Firehouse 4 and Ladder 4 in downtown Spokane. My journey in firefighting, fueled by a relentless passion for public safety, has been a rewarding adventure.

My firefighting journey has been driven by a passion for making a meaningful impact. Beyond the firehouse, you’ll often find me conquering slopes on skis in the winter and relishing the thrill of water skiing in the warmer months.

At the heart of it all is my family — my wife and our four incredible kids, ages 26, 21, 20, and 18. Their unwavering support adds a profound dimension to my life and fuels my commitment to professional excellence and personal fulfillment.

Beyond the front lines, I wear another hat as the Union President, advocating for my fellow firefighters’ rights, welfare, and professional growth. It’s a role that adds depth to my commitment to the firefighting community, ensuring our voices are heard and our needs are addressed.

I joined the Spokane Fire Department in 1994 and have been on the Local 29 executive board since 2014. I was born and raised in Spokane and currently work on Ladder 4 on the west end of downtown. I am married with two adult sons, and in my free time, I enjoy camping, fishing, and riding my motorcycle.

I have been Local 29’s Treasurer since 2022. I joined the Spokane Fire Department in 2012 and have been fortunate enough to work at many great houses since then. When I’m not crunching numbers or slaying the dragon, I love to play soccer and hockey, and coach youth teams. At home, I’m raising three rowdy, incredible boys with my loving wife Sarah.

Corey was raised in a union household. He was hired by the SFD in 2012. When he’s not advocating for Local 29 you will likely find him at one of his children’s sports games. 

I was hired on to the Spokane Fire Department March 1st, 1999. I have previously served as a station rep and executive board member. Local 29 has a storied history as both a founding member of the Washington State Council of Firefighters and the International Association of Firefighters. I am deeply honored to serve Local 29.

I am Matt Meeker I work out at the Spokane International Airport Fire Department and have since 2015. I served 8 years prior to that in the United States Air Force. Ive been on the executive board since 2021. 

I am married with 4 children. My oldest is currently 13 and youngest is 6. I am very active in my church and enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, watching baseball and playing board games.

I am currently in my 23rd year with the Spokane Fire Department. Spokane is my third professional fire department that I have worked for, and Local 29 is the third IAFF Local I have been a part of. I have also worked for Local 3995 Whitefish Professional Firefighters and Local 1892 Pullman Professional Firefighters.

Coming into my 17th year with SFD I am dedicated to continuing the 100 year long history of strong union leadership and advocacy within Local 29. I currently head up our annual L29 Coats for Kids event and enjoy participating in all of our L29 community programs. I learned the benefits firsthand of growing up in a strong union household as my father spent over a decade serving as the Secretary-Treasurer for STA Local 1015 here in Spokane. I carry forward those values in serving our members in all facets and look forward to continuing to build my knowledge base in multiple areas of union leadership. My phone is always on, and I’m happy to chat anytime. United we bargain, Divided we beg. 

Having had the good fortune of working for, and with, numerous principal officers of L29 early in my career, the Union has been an integral part of my life. Involved for more than 2 decades in a variety of committees, projects, and for the past 6 years as an Executive Board member, I take pride in understanding member’s concerns and finding solutions.

My name is Mike Walker. I have been with the Spokane Fire Department for 14 years.  I have been working in the fire service for 20 years total. I have been a member of Local 29s Executive Board for 4 years and I am the Chair of the Engine Committee. I am also Local 29s Firefighter Cancer Support Network representative and help members with whatever I can when they get the news of cancer. I thank you all for the opportunity to represent you!
